In a bid to promote effective Decentralization in the Gateway city, Tiko, the Tiko Council on July 28,2023 launched it’s Citizens consultation ahead of the Budget Orientation Debate.
The activity launched at the Tiko Main Market by Fourth Deputy Mayor, Waindim Rudolf on behalf of the Lord Mayor of Tiko Council, HRH Peter Ikome Mesoso III will see a Delegation from the Tiko Council visit all 17 Zones and Market Management Committees that make up Tiko municipality.
The traders of the Tiko Central Market through the president of the Market Management Committee madam Patience Forteh spouse Ngale enumerated some of their achievements with one being increase in hygiene and Sanitation and improvement in security measures.They also outlined some of their challenges which included delapidated slabs in the market that injured traders and customers, poor Transport network leading to the market, taxes inflation from Taxation officers amongst others.
Mayor Waindim Rudolf on behalf of the TIKO Council while addressing the Traders through the market Management Committee reiterated the importance of Decentralization and the various steps taken by the council to ensure that their challenges are being addressed such as the creation of a Market Management Committee executive who are incharge of organising the traders, the supply of pipe borne water to the market which will go a long way to asist incase of fire outbreak and others
Last Friday July 28,2023 outing by the Tiko Council will not only improve Decentralization but also improve Citizen participation in identifying projects of the municipality thus aiding the council in drafting the 2024 Budget for the implementation of projects.
